High blood pressure is a big deal, leading to things like stroke and coronary artery disease—and tea drinkers have long attempted to circumvent it with their daily cuppa. However, while research into tea’s affect on lowering blood pressure isn’t new, the study results have been largely inconclusive… until now.

According to a study recently published in the British Journal of Nutrition, in which researchers looked for trends in 25 previous trials of tea’s affect on blood pressure, tea doesn’t make much difference in the short term. However, 12 weeks into the study results began to appear; regular tea drinkers’ blood pressure was noticeably lowered.

The researchers found that green tea had the best results for lowering blood pressure, with black tea coming in second.
