Have brittle, flyaway hair? Instead of lathering your hair with products, why not try a cup of tea? The nutrients brimming in your daily cup may not only help boost the immune system but can create a glorious mane.
Suffering from hair loss, why not drink some tea? The caffeine found in the Camilla sinensis plant helps block DHT (Dihydrotestrone), the hormone believed to be responsible for hair loss. In addition, the antioxidants in the plant are also believed to inhibit DHT, so a simple cup of tea has a powerful punch, preventing hair loss on two fronts. And here’s the bonus, when you drink tea, you not only prevent hair from falling out but also encourage more growth. To give an added boost to hair, try a daily scalp massage with a cup of your favorite brew. The tea massage boosts circulation and more hair is the result.
If you have been leaning towards drinking tisanes, don’t worry, these beauties are also amazing for your follicles. Rooibos tea has been shown to help increase hair growth, prevent hair loss and add brilliant shine.
The wonderful hair benefits don’t only have to be enjoyed internally; why not try washing your hair with some tea today? While almost all varieties of tea have been shown to help prevent hair loss, each has their own additional magic that can help create beautiful locks. The polyphenols, vitamin C and E in black tea help prevent dullness, boosting shine while increasing softness.
Suffering from dandruff? The anti-inflammatory properties found in green tea are believed to help and may even ease the itch of psoriasis. While the panthenol found in both green and white tea helps prevent breakage and split ends. In addition, a white tea rinse can help protect your hair from UV damage.
Tea Hair Rinse Recipe:
2 to 3 bags of tea (or 2 to 3 tablespoons loose tea)
6 cups of water
Steep for one hour (no need to worry about the tannins here, this is for your hair health not for drinking).
Allow to cool.
Application
Apply the tea rinse on clean, damp hair. Wrap hair. Allow the tea to penetrate for 10 minutes. Rinse and apply conditioner, if desired. For additional shine, bottle the rinse and spritz your hair throughout the day.
If you’re looking for a color kick, why not leave the rinse in a bit longer? Black tea enhances the shine and highlights in brunettes, rooibos is wonderful for red heads and for blonde brilliance try chamomile. If you have a few grey strands, add two teaspoons of sage to your rinse. Sage will open the hair follicles, allowing the color to penetrate. Similar to a boxed hair color, test a small patch of hair first to see the color results.
Not wanting to make your own, why not buy one of the products currently on the market? In 2007, Scruples created a full luxury product line including shampoo, conditioner and hair spray enhanced with white tea extract: their White Tea Luxury Collection. “Hair is one of your greatest accessories, you wear it every day,” said Tracy Liguori, Co-President Marketing and Advertising, Scruples, Inc. “White tea is the least processed of all of the teas, and it holds the highest levels of antioxidants. These antioxidants help to protect the hair.”
