Cancer is scary, and as any cancer patient knows, treatment can be almost as frightening. Chemotherapy, while killing cancer cells, also kills healthy cells, potentially leading to further complications for the patient. Fortunately, green tea may have the answer.
Researchers in Singapore have been developing a green tea-based nanocarrier for use with cancer patients. A nanocarrier helps to deliver chemotherapy treatment to the cancer cells while minimizing damage to surrounding organs. Because of green tea’s inherent anti-cancer properties, it makes a perfect delivery system.
“We have developed a green tea-based carrier in which the carrier itself displayed anti-cancer effect and can boost cancer treatment,” said Dr. Motoichi Kurisawa, the leader of the research team.
