Tea terminology can be mind-bogglingly complex. Which is why we’re bringing you Tea A-Z, a guide to deciphering both common and completely bewildering concepts from the world of tea. Let’s dive in!  

Neat:   A Term used to describe tea that is well made both in size and make.

Needle:  Dried Tealeaves that are rolled into the form of a needle.

Nilgiri: A region in the south of India known for its aromatic, fragrant tea. The tea thrives amongst the forests of jungles of the Nilgiri Mountains (Blue Mountain) with elevations ranging from 1000 to 8000 feet. The majority of the tea produced in this region is CTC (crush, tear curl), although orthodox production is slowly expanding.

Note: A word to describe the type of flavor(s) that comes from the tea.

Nose:  A term used to describe the aroma of a brewed tea.

Nutty: For a calorie free rich flavor, brew a tea with a nutty note.  These teas bring an overtone of nut flavors to the palate.
