Blooming tea, also called flowering tea, is not a new concept. Some types of blooms may be newer creations, but the gathering and binding of tea into ‘blooms’ has most likely been performed in China for hundreds of years.
The tea bloom is a beautifully magical creation, fascinating to behold by children and adults alike. All that’s required is a clear teapot or glass and water. Previously, flowering tea was for visual enjoyment only, as the resulting tea was quite bitter due to low-quality tea leaves. But in the past few decades, premium teas have replaced the cheap ingredients, and the final product is actually a delicious tea to enjoy in your cup after the visual ‘oohs and ahhs’ are over.
