Among the numerous benefits of tea, one of the most important is the positive effects on the brain. A recent study sees a connection between green tea and better memory. But with so much going on in your life what else can you do to stay sharp without spending your days with your nose in a book?

  1. Sudoku/Crossword: No surprise that puzzles like this help work out the mind. There are tons of apps for your smart phone or websites you can visit that give you a puzzle that fits your experience level. Sounds like a lovely companion to your morning cuppa!
  2. Simple Math: Do you still know your times tables? Long division? Can you do your kids math? It might not be the most fun suggestion but a little bit of math goes a long way. Plus you can show the kids you still got it. Try a quick fun web game to test yourself.
  3. Wikipedia:random: Did you know that you can follow a special link and Wikipedia will generate a random article for you? We just learned about a French painter, a Honduran football club, and the characters from a Mexican telenovela. What did you learn about?
  4. Meditate: An obvious one but an important one. Taking the time out of your day to just do nothing, just sit and be with yourself is very important. Having the ability to stop and think will come in handy a lot.
  5. Eat better & exercise: It’s no secret that tea can really help with your brain, we assume you’re already on that one! But what else? Try fish, avocado, whole grains & blueberries all pump up your brain. Add on a quick workout like a walk or some yoga for the full effect.
  6. Laugh: Laughter really is the best medicine. It activates multiple areas of the brain. Surround yourself with happy, funny people. Surround yourself with funny things. Take time for jokes and those irresistible YouTube videos, your brain will thank you.
  7. Mix it up: Travel the same roads to work every day? Try a new route. Make the same salad for lunch every day? Switch it up. Start every work day with the same tea? Try something new! Mixing up your routine will keep your brain on its toes.
  8. Learn a new word: Those word-a-day calendars have a purpose! Just because you graduated doesn’t mean you should stop learning. Hit the internet or even pick up a dictionary and never stop learning!
  9. Try something new: Hobbies are great to keep you happy with the added benefit of keeping you sharp. Check out classes you can take at the local community college or library. It’s also a great way to connect with new people!
  10. Sleep more: Another obvious one! One thing most people have in common is they believe they can use more sleep, and most of the time they’re right. A well-rested brain is a high-functioning one.
  11. Listen to music: Adding music to your studies or work can increase productivity. This one isn’t for everyone but try it out! What kind of music do you think would help your brain most?
