Rooibos to the Rescue: Red Espresso Provides Caffeine-Free Coffee Alternative

0

Red EspressoTea drinkers who are jealous of the lovely presentation of espresso-based beverages now have theirs: a caffeine-free “espresso” made from rooibos.

Keen beaner Carl Pretorious came up with the concept after he realized his 6-shot-per-morning espresso habit was getting out of hand—and negatively affecting his health. Called Red Espresso, the drink is 100 percent rooibos that has been specially processed for use in any of your typical coffee-making devices, from a French press to a drip coffee pot. The faux shots even get a foamy “crema” when run through an espresso machine and can be used to make lattes.

Rooibos has five times the antioxidants of green tea and is naturally caffeine-free, making it an obvious choice for the health-conscious tea drinker—as well as folks who don’t want their after-dinner espresso keeping them up all night.
