What Goes Into Writing a Novel? A Whole Lotta Tea!

I can tell you how many words go into a novel (or my novel at least) – 93,945

I can tell you how many pages 93,945 words take up when formatted to a 5″ x 8″ book – 392

What I can’t tell you is how many cups of tea goes into writing a novel since I lost count after I surpassed 3-digit territory. (Seriously)

Many nights went into writing, editing, re-writing and re-editing my first novel, The Peisistratos Deal. And throughout all of them, I had my trusty beverage of choice by my side. Some nights it was vanilla red tea (my personal favorite). Other evenings it was green chai or black tea with a hint of almond. No matter what the selection was for the night, I knew I could count on the soothing liquid to keep me focused on the task at hand. With one (or both) of my kitties on my lap, a warm cuppa by my side and a story to tell, I was set. And when I was finally finished, I celebrated with… what else of course… a cup of tea! I found such enjoyment in writing the story that I’ve already brewed another pot and am off on the next adventure. Perhaps for the fun of it I will actually keep track this time of how many cuppas it takes to write a novel. They say everyone has a book in them – you might want to stock your tea shelves before you get started!

This is one of my kitties, Hannah, enjoying the book. She must have been at a good part!
