Smoky Tea Mocktail Recipe

Want a non-alcoholic version of a Bloody Mary? This smoky tea mocktail is a flavorful, drink to enjoy with weekend brunch or just as a liquid afternoon snack. Smoked black teas give this “mocktail” a deep flavor.

Pairings

  • Organic Lapsang Souchong, by The Tea Spot
  • Lapsang Souchong Black, by Natures Tea Leaf
  • Tarry Lapsang Souchong, by Rare Tea Co.

Prep Time: 5 minutes. Cook Time: 5 minutes. Yields about 2.5 cups (20 oz.).

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp. Lapsang Souchong, Tarry Souchong or Russian Caravan tealeaves
  • 1 c. boiling water
  • 1 c. tomato juice or tomato-juice blend (such as V8)
  • 1 celery stalk, or other Bloody Mary garnishes besides lemon or lime
  • Hot sauce, salt or other seasonings (to taste)
  • Ice (as needed)

Method

  1. Brew the tealeaves in the boiling water for 5 minutes.
  2. Strain the leaves. Blend the tea with the tomato juice.
  3. Pour over ice.
  4. Add desired seasonings and garnishes. Serve immediately.
