Pears pack tons of nutrients in a small package—not to mention a punch of flavor. Their many varieties can be used to add a spark to everything from breakfast to dinner—to cocktails! Served piping hot, this toddy of sparkling cider, spiced tea, brandy, and orange liqueur hits a crisp, cool note thanks to thin slices of Seckel pears.

Prep time: 5 minutes
Total time: 15 minutes

Serves 6

Ingredients

  • 4 cups sparkling pear or apple cider, at room temperature
  • 3 cups pear juice
  • 4 tablespoons orange-cinnamon black tea blend (such as Harney & Sons Hot Cinnamon Spice or The Tea Spot Harvest Spice Tea)
  • 1/2 vanilla bean, split
  • 5 whole cloves
  • 1/2 cups brandy, plus more if desired
  • 3 tablespoons orange liqueur (such as Grand Marnier)
  • 1 Seckel pear, cut crosswise into 6 thin rounds and seeded

Method

  1. In a large saucepan over medium-high heat, bring 3 cups sparkling cider, pear juice, tea, vanilla bean, and cloves to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer, uncovered, for 7 minutes.
  2. Remove from heat, and stir in brandy and orange liqueur.
  3. Strain liquid through a fine-mesh sieve into a heatproof pitcher.

Pour into mugs. Top off each with a splash of remaining sparkling cider and garnish with 1 pear round.
